Checked for good health: since 1994, HIGH TOUCH has been the only bamboo furniture manufacturer in the world to have its products checked regularly for health risks.
The reason? Many items of bamboo furniture, particularly from Third World countries, are treated with highly toxic, carcinogenic harmful substances. To counter the typical destructive wood beetles, chemical substances such as PCB, cadmium, formaldehyde, naphthalene, sulphur, diesel oil, etc. are sprayed into the cavities and spaces in the bamboo cane. Highly toxic varnishes are mixed with aromatic substances with the aim of concealing chemical smells and toxicities (e.g. aromatic substance analysis).
The consequence: years of unhealthy gas evolutions can trigger allergic reactions culminating in asthma.
That is why information about the materials used, together with checks for harmful substances by an independent examining authority, are indispensable particularly for bamboo furniture. Adequate labelling represents a safety bonus for everyone, not just for people suffering from allergies.
The well-being and health of our customers is our primary concern. After all, only a satisfied customer is a good customer.
Nowadays, with everyone following the ecological trend, almost every supplier claims to treat bamboo canes in an environmentally friendly manner without using harmful substances. To take one example: No unhealthy chemicals of any kind are used, e.g. the melamine lacquer containing formaldehyde that is generally used in mass products from Indonesia.
Unfortunately, expert opinions from Third World countries cannot be verified in Europe and can frequently be obtained in return for a small sum of money.
Our request: never buy or distribute bamboo furniture without written proof of examination from a renowned European institute!
